National Radiologic Technology Week
Yesterday, November 8, 2008, was the anniversary of the discovery of x-rays. In connection with this,the observance of the National Radiologic Technology Week was launched with a symbolic ceremony during the 1999 RT Congress which was held at the Subic International Hotel last November 13, 1999. President Joseph E. Estrada approved the National RT Week through Proclamation No. 194, which shall be observed every second week of November of every year, The President signed the declaration on October 11, 1999.
The Philippine Federation of Professional Radiologic Technologists, worked for the approval of the decree with the initiative of its National President Greg C. Gallardo and the ample support of Pastor Rolly Capili, Ruth Imbo and Nilo Villanueva.
The launching ceremony was witnessed and participated in by around 500 delegates and guests of the 1999 RT Congress. The delegates came from different regions of the Philippines, with guests from the International Atomic Energy Commission from Brazil & from Thailand. A participant from Cambodia was also in the group. Local guests includes Dr. Leandro dela Cruz and Dr. Carlos David. Dra. Celia Anatalio, Ms. Agnette Peralta and Dr. Tranquilino Elicano were among the well wishers and were given special awards with their noble contributions in the development of Radiologic Technology in the Philippines. Mr. Norberto Palomo, who helped pioneer the first school of X-ray Technology in the country, provided the inspirational message. A historical presentation of Philippine Radiologic Technology ushered the program through the efforts of the RT Staff of the Radiation Health Service.
