Praning5254 KURZBAUE METHOD

Film: 8 x 10 (18 x 24 cm)

Position of patient
- patient lies in lateral recumbent position on affected side
- sternoclacvicular is centered to the midline of the table
- hips and knees are flex to comfortable position

Position of part
- fully extend the affected arm of the affected side and grasp the end of the table for support
- sternoclacvicular is centered to the midline of the table
- place the uppermost arm along the side of the body
- have the patient grasp the dorsal surface of the hip to hold the shoulder in a depressed position
- adjust thorax to place the anterior surface of the manubrium perpendicular to the plane of the film
- adjust midpoint of the cassette to coincide with the CR
- respiration is suspended

Central ray
- direct the CR through the lowermost sternoclavicular articulation at an angle of 15 degrees caudad

Structure shown
- unobstructed lateral positin of the sternoclavicular articulationadjacent to the film

Evaluation criteria
- stenoclavicular joint of interest should be demonstrated
- shoulers should not superimposed the sternoclavicular articulations
