Pawlow Method: Cervicothoracic Region
IR Size: 10 x 12 in ( 24 x 30 cm ) lengthwise
Position of patient
- Place the patient in a lateral recumbent position with the head elevated on the patient’s arm, sandbags, or a small firm pillow.
Position of part
- Extend the patient’s dependent arm and adjust it to place the humeral head behind the front of the vertebrae.
- Adjust the support under the head, and place the other support under the lower thorax so that the long axis of the cervicothoracic vertebrae is horizontal
- center the cassette at the level of the 2nd or 3rd thoracic vertebrae.
CR: direct the central ray to the cervicothoracic area at angle o 3 to 5 degrees cephalad.
Structure shown:
- a lateral position of the cervicothoracic vertebrae is seen between the shadows of the shoulders.
Evaluation criteria:
- Vertebrae should be lateral and not rotated
- Shoulders should be seen separated
- Area approximately from C5 to T5 be included.
