Underrated Noble Profession: Think About It
A person once told me this: "Why did you took up that course? It's never been heard! You should've taken Nursing if you plan to work abroad and earn a greener pasteur!". I only gave her a smile as a response because in the first place, why would I bother to argue with people who doesn't know anything? It will just be a waste of time.If that person only knew that Radiologic Technologists are selfless people, she will never have said that in front of my face. Tsk tsk tsk...
We tend to sacrifice ourselves for other's sake. We allow ourselves to be exposed to unnecessary radiation just to provide the Radiologists with high quality radiographic image; which in turn, will allow the physicians to deliver accurate diagnosis to the patient.
Actually, we have the option not expose ourselves to scatter radiation by selecting low technique factors during the patient's x-ray exposure; which in turn will give higher doses to them. But we don't go for that option. We are taught in school that as health care workers, we should provide our patients the care that they need.
Radiation is cumulative and everytime we expose our patients to radiation, we acquire certain amount of scatter radiaiton. When this adds up, we can have radiation-related illness, especially in the later part of our lives. So for those who underrates our profession, think about it.
