Proper Handling and Storage of a Radiographic Film
Artifacts- caused by the improper handling, unintended optical density and they are unnecessary marks on the radiograph.
- Film should not be bends crease and subject to rough handling
- Before processing, hand should be clean and dry, avoid lotions and creams
Heat and Humidity- can cause film fog and reduces contrast.
- Film should be stored at 20ْ C or 68˚ F. Never store the film near the steam or fire and film should be stored at humidity of 40-60 % and keep the film in a cool dry place.
Light- film should be stored and handled in a dark. Exposure of film in light can cause fog.
- Fog- unintended optical density in the radiograph that reduces contrast because of light and chemical contamination.
Radiation - it creates image artifacts by reducing contrast and increasing fog.
- 2µG or 0.2 mR- the fog level of the film if not exposed.
Shelf- Life - aging lost the contrast and increases the fog. Film should be stored on edge standing rather than lying flat, it causes warping.
- FIFO - first come, first out.
