Radiologic Technologists are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations. We are educated in the following fields:

Specializations

• Mammography - which focuses on breast cancer detection
• Computed Tomography (CT) - produces axial images
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - uses huge magnets and radiowaves
• Sonography (ultrasound) - uses high-frequency sound waves
• Nuclear Medicine - uses radiopharmaceuticals and special cameras to produce images of organs and reveal their function
• Radiation Therapy - administers highly focused forms of radiation to treat cancer and other diseases
• Bone densitometry
• Cardiovascular-interventional radiography
• Quality management

Employment Opportunities

According to U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics job opportunities are expected to be favorable because a large number of employers report difficulty hiring sufficient numbers of radiologic technologists and technicians. Imbalances between the demand for, and supply of, radiologic technologists and technicians should spur efforts to attract and retain qualified workers, such as improved compensation and working conditions. Employment of radiologic technologists is expected to increase by about 15 percent from 2008 to 2016, faster than the average for all occupations.
