Praning5254 Judd Method: PA projection of Atlas and Dens (odontoid process)

Film: 8 x 10 (18 x 24 cm)

Position of patient
- patient in prone position
- center the midsagittal plane of the body o the midline of the table
- flex the patient’s elbows
- place the arms in a comfortable position and adjust the shoulders to lie in the same transverse plane

Position of part
- have the patient extend the neck and rest the chin on the table.
- with the cassette in the bucky tray, adjust it so that the midpoint is centered to throat at the level of the upper margin of the thyroid cartilage.
- adjust the nose about 1” from the table top with the OML approximately 37 degrees to the plane of the film.
- respiration is suspended

Central ray
- direct the CR perpendicular to the midpoint of the film

- a PA projection of dens (odontoid process) is shown
